Department of Public Safety - Justice and Community Grants Program
Public Safety, Department of
The Justice and Community Grants unit of OJP serves as a catalyst for statewide approaches to reducing and preventing crime, violence and drug abuse through identifying causes, recommending policies and coordinating statewide and community strategies. We assist state and local governments, public and nonprofit agencies, community organizations and the legislature. We promote healthy communities by bringing together diverse groups, facilitating the exchange of ideas and by providing funds to test promising initiatives.
Department of Public Safety - Crime Victim Grants Program
Public Safety, Department of
The Office of Justice Programs, Crime Victim Grants Unit (CVGU), distributes approximately $32 million in state and federal funds to nearly 150 agencies throughout Minnesota to provide direct advocacy services to victims of crime. Depending on the type of program services an agency is funded to provide, services may include crisis intervention, advocacy, group support, legal advocacy, transportation, shelter, accompaniment to appointments or court, assistance in seeking financial assistance or civil protection orders, and information and referral to other resources.

Department of Public Safety - Homeland Security and Emergency Management Grants
Public Safety, Department of
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) administers 17 state and federal grant programs. In fiscal year 2009 alone, HSEM awarded grants totaling approximately $81.5 million to more than 300 local governments and other entities. More than 80 percent of the grant monies received by HSEM will be passed through to local governments. The majority of the federal grant monies awarded by HSEM is obtained from the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The division also receives and administers federal grants from the Department of Commerce and the Department of Transportation. Office of Traffic Safety - Grants
Public Safety, Department of
The Toward Zero Deaths (TZD) Enforcement grant program provides federal funds to law enforcement agencies to conduct enhanced traffic enforcement. A Request for Proposal (RFP) from law enforcement agencies will be posted to the Web site in Spring 2014 for the next grant cycle. In addition to the State Patrol, 55 law enforcement grants involving 277 agencies have been awarded for 2013.
